YOUTH RED CROSS:
The YRC of Sri Kaliswari College conducted a student participating
seminar on 2nd August, 2006. The topic was "Role of youth in
Anti-terrorism" in which seven students were presented their
articles with LCD presentation.
To create awareness among students about blood
donation, Dr.Kathiresan, Medical Officer, Government Hospital, Sivakasi
delivered a special lecture on "Blood Donation - A Noble Service"
to our students on 3rd August, 2006.
A Blood Donation Camp in association with Sivakasi
Government Hospital and Rotary Club was conducted in our college premises
on 4th August, 2006.
A special camp regarding "Vaccination for
Jaundice" was conducted on 18th September 2006 in association
with Iswariya Social Organization.
Mr.Maran Jee, Mother's Nature - Cure & Herbals,
Sivakasi delivered a guest lecture titled "Importance of Natural
Food" on 23rd September, 2006.
Mr.M.Anbalagan, Programme Officer of YRC attended
"Three days Trainers' Programme" for the period from 19th
to 21st January, 2007 at World University Service Centre, Chennai.
Our Programme Officer also attended a Three day
Zonal Level YRC Orientation Training Programme conducted by Madurai
Kamaraj University from 3rd to 5th April, 2007 at Madurai.
RED RIBBON CLUB: Red Ribbon Club
of our college organized a Health Awareness cum Orientation Programme
to new RRC volunteers of our college on 29th September, 2006. As a
part of the club activity, the RRC volunteers participated in Poetry,
Pencil Drawing and Essay competitions. Students also presented special
lecture on health awareness / sexually transmitted diseases. RRC &
NSS (Boys) Units collectively organized a programme on "Future
Challenges of Indian Youth". Dr.S.Subramanian, M.D., Pathology
acted as resource person. On 19th March 2007, our RRC conducted a
programme "Youth Welfare Programme cum Competition". The
competitions for the students include Elocution, Essay writing and
short poem writing to create awareness on HIV/AIDS.
KALISWARI ECO CLUB (ENVIRONMENT CLUB):
The Eco Club conducted "Earth Festival Celebration - 2006"
from 21st to 23rd June, 2006. In this programme, students from various
colleges and students of Virudhunagar district were invited for attending
the special lectures, competitions such as drawing, model making,
elocution, essay, skit etc. Dr.N.Sugumaran, Dean, Research and Professor
and Head in Sri Paramakalyani Centre for Environment Studies, Manonmaniam
Sundaranar University inaugurated the function.
Dr.P.Lakshmanaperumalsami, Professor and Head,
Department of Environment Science, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore
delivered special lecture on the second day. Sri.S.S.Jawahar, District
Collector, Virudhunagar delivered the valedictory address and distributed
prizes and certificates to the participants.
Under the National Service Scheme Unit No.193
[Women's Wing] and Eco Club, organised the "Environmental Day"
celebration on 7th July 2006 in the college. Tree plantation was carried
out at the end of the function.
A District level seminar on "Wild life protection
and Nature conservation" was organised by the Club along with
Wild Life Association of Rajapalayam and WWF India [NCI]. On 18th
July 2006 our Kaliswari College Eco Club also get registered with
NCI (Nature Club of India) WWF (NCI).
FACULTY ACADEMIC FORUM: A two
day orientation programme was organised on 8th and 9th June, 2006.
Prof.S.Selvaraj, Adviser, Annamal College of Education delivered lectures
on (1) Role of Teachers in 21st Century (2) Maintaining high standard
in Education - The need of the Hour.
A lecture programme was organised on 18th July,
2006. Mr.S.Chandra Bose and Mr.R.Karthikeyan, both members of Commerce
department were resource persons. They gave lectures on (1) Management
practices in India (2) Team building.
A guest lecture was arranged on 22nd July, 2006.
The resource person was Mr.R.Victor Lazarus, Lecturer and Trainer,
Zonal Railway Institute, Tiruchi. He gave a lecture on "Role
of Teachers in making leaders of tomorrow".
A special lecture on "Reading a religious
scripture" was organised on 4th September 2006. Dr.M.N.Bose,
Professor of English, Taiz University, Yemen was the resource person.
A guest lecture programme was organised on 25th
September 2006. Dr.P.C.Sekar, Reader, Department of Management Studies,
Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai spoke on "Contemporary Teaching
techniques for teachers".
Mr.V.Thangapandian, Lecturer, Department of Biotechnology,
Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi delivered a lecture on 'PYREXIA' in
a meeting held on 10th of November, 2006.
Faculty Academic Forum of Sri Kaliswari College organised a programme
on NAAC on 5th December 2006. The chief guest Prof.S.Selvaraj, Advisor,
Annamal College of Education, delivered a lecture on "NAAC -
Motivating the staff".
There was a meeting on 16th December, 2006. Dr.Dheep,
Consultant Psychiatrist, Apollo Hospitals, Founder-Director, Top Kids
delivered a lecture on 'Understanding and Counselling of College students'.
A special programme was arranged on 3rd March
2007. Rev.Dr.Francis Soundraraj, Emeritus Fellow, Former Principal,
Madras Christian College, Senior Resource Person, NAAC delivered an
enlightening lecture on 'Neutral Accent'.
TRENDS IN KALIS RESEARCH: A committee
was formed to bring the innovative idea in real with the following
faculty members and the review experts from Madurai Kamaraj University.
All the committee members with the assistance
of research committee have collected original findings in a given
format from all of our faculty members and students. All the collected
articles were reviewed properly and published as the first volume
of "Trends in Kalis Research" in the month of December,
2006 consists of 15 original research articles collected from various
departments of our college.
VALUE ADDED COURSES (VAC): All
those students in the II & III year of UG courses of our college
are eligible to undergo training under VAC. Each and every department
of our college offers one or two certificate courses framed with the
sole objective of enhancing the employability potential of our students.
Courses are framed according to the guidelines evolved by the Curriculum
Development Cell of our college. Courses are periodically revised/
modified according to the recent developments in the subject area
and also based on the feedback from the students. 21 such Certificate
Courses are available presently for the benefit of the students. The
courses are:

COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS CELL:
Intimation Circulars for sixteen competitive examinations have been
sent during the year 2006-2007. We have conducted coaching classes
and classes to fill-up the application form for various competitive
examinations. Coaching class for Railway Recruitment Board, Chennai
Examinations was conducted on 16th June, 2006.
On 5th October 2006, a class conducted for filling
up the application form for TNPSC - Group V - Secretariat Service
Examination. Coaching classes were conducted from 3rd to 5th January,
2007 for TNPSC - Group V - Secretariat Service Examinations.
These types of coaching classes are very useful
to our students in the competitive world. They are very useful for
some Entrance Examinations also. This is purely free coaching classes.
Our aim is to coach our students to attend competitive examinations
and to get the job. In coming years the activities of this cell will
be more.
CA / CWA TRAINING WING: During
the academic year 2006-07, the wing organised a seminar on "Role
of Cost Accountant" on 24th July, 2006 in our college. Dr.I.Ashok,
Secretary, Madurai Chapter of ICWAI was the chief guest and the Resource
person Mr.K.S.Muthupandian, P.A. to Collector, Virudhunagar delivered
the lecture on that topic. 11 students were registered with Institute
of Cost and Works Accountants of India. Out of these, two students
have passed the examination.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CELL: The Women's
Empowerment Cell of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi organised a special
lecture entitled 'Computers - An Introduction' on 13th July, 2006.
Ms.R.Muthulakshmi, Head, Department of BCA & IT, Sri Kaliswari
College delivered the special lecture.
We conducted a Counselling programme on 6th September,
2006 by Dr.Padma Srinivasan, Retired Professor, Department of English,
Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.
Joining hands with the Rotary Club of Sivakasi,
a Legal Awareness Programme was conducted on 12th January, 2007. The
chief guest address on 'Women's Rights' was delivered by Mrs.Premavathy
of Jaya TV fame astrologer.
The Women's Empowerment Cell and NSS Women's
Wing of Sri Kaliswari College jointly celebrated Women's Day on 8th
March, 2007. The chief guest Dr.Bhuvana, Chief Community Development
Officer, Tamilnadu Slum Clearance Board, Chennai addressed on "Women
Literacy". Also we conducted competitions such as essay writing,
word puzzle and winners were awarded.
HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT CENTRE: On
29th August 2006, the Holistic Development Centre of our college organised
awareness program to introduce all the University Certificate Courses,
which are going to be conducted by various departments of our college.
Head of various departments, who are going to conduct the certificate
courses for the academic year 2006-2007, gave an introductory speech
about their certificate course and also about the importance of the
training.
On 18th September 2006, a lecture was organized
on 'Self realization - A key to success'. Mrs.Manvizhi Sankar, Master
in-charge, Manavalakalai Mandram, Virudhunagar was the resource person.
On 27th September 2006, we arranged for a seminar
on 'Fascinating English structure' by Mrs.N.Pradeepa, Head, Department
of English of our college.
On 4th January 2007, a seminar was arranged on
the topic 'Awareness to Anti-Corruption' by Mr.Natarajan and Mr.Ramachandran,
Peoples Anti-Corruption Movement.
STUDY CIRCLE: In our college,
every year Vivekananda Kendra's test (India's culture) is conducted,
many number of students wrote this examination and attended the camp
at Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari. Last year, 29 students wrote the
Vivekananda Kendra test. Among those, 9 students attended the camp
which was conducted by Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari for the students
who wrote the Vivekananda Kendra examinations.
HUMOUR CLUB: On 16th June, 2006,
a programme 'Elamai Express' was conducted by Kodai-Panbalai and the
programme was broadcasted lively.
PLACEMENT CELL: On 23rd September
2006, the Placement Cell of our college organized a Guest Lecture.
Prof.G.Subramanian, Senior Lecturer, Department of Commerce, Kamaraj
College, Thoothukudi delivered lecture on "Changing Scenario
in Employment Avenue (post Globalization era)".
The Placement Cell of our college and Shriram
Transport Finance Co. Ltd., Chennai were jointly conducted the campus
interview for UG Graduates on 7th October 2006, at our college campus.
Totally 76 students from various colleges located in Virudhunagar
District were attended the interview. Second phase of the interview
conducted on 17th October 2006, at Shriram Transport Finance Co. Ltd.,
Sivakasi branch, 9 candidates were selected and posted in different
places.
The Placement Cell conducted a written test on
behalf of ACAD, Chennai, for the post of Customer Support Engineer
and Technical Support Engineer to BPO and Call Centre in our campus
on 22nd January, 2007. 39 students from different discipline were
written the examination of which 28 students were selected for the
personal interview.
ICFAI, Rajapalayam, conducted the written test
for UG final year students for attending "Free Placement Training
Programme" on 22nd January, 2007.
On 24th January 2007, the Placement Cell of our
college organized a guest lecture on "Tips to succeed in an Interview"
by Mr.D.Prabu Kannan, Branch Manager and Mr.B.Prakash, Senior Technical
Co-ordinator, STC Pvt. Ltd., Chennai.
Five students from the Department of Hotel Management
and Catering Science were selected in the off-campus interview conducted
by Hotel Sangam on 8th January, 2007.
PLANNING FORUM: The inaugural
function of Planning Forum of our college held on 26th July, 2006.
Prof.T.Dhanabalan, Principal, P.K.N. College of Arts and Science was
the chief guest.
Virudhunagar District Consumer Council, Virudhunagar
celebrated the 'World Consumer Day' on 15th March, 2006. On that day
it organized an essay competition for college students on the topic
"Consumer movement". Among them, one student won I prize
and another won consolation prize.
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT CELL: The
syllabus framed by the departments were scrutinised and approved by
the Cell, which were then implemented. The Cell also has the responsibility
of identifying new areas in which courses could be introduced in our
college.
CENTRE FOR MEDICINAL PLANTS RESEARCH:
Village improvement program:
· We have adopted 10 villages for this project.
· As part of this project we have distributed 3 cement dustbins
(2.5' X 2.5') to each village, totally 30 cement dustbins for ten
villages.
· 20 sanitary toilet bowls with 4" PVC pipe 10' length
were distributed for maintaining health and hygienic environment.
· 400 saplings (horticultural crops) were donated to farmers
and educational institutions for green environment through the panchayat
president.
· We have appointed 8 tuition masters in the respective villages
for conducting private tuition centre (extra coaching) between 6.00
p.m. and 8.00 p.m. for improving the life style of illiterate children
of farmers.
· Nearly 370 school children were benefited upto 12th standard.
Cultivation of saplings and label their name:
· 150 medicinal plants are cultivated and monitoring periodically.
· 1000 nos. of seedlings were cultivated for Aloe vera project.
· Additionally 10 nos. of horticultural crops were planted
in the Horticultural plantation area.
· Additionally 15 nos. of sapling were planted in Tamarind
cultivation area.
· 25 saplings were replaced in the botanical garden area.
· The plant name, their family, vernacular name, part use and
medicinal uses were labelled in a board individually.
Medicinal Plants Website:
· The medicinal plants website was created in the name of www.kaliswari-college.com,
totally 25 medicinal plants data are available in the website. The
plants name, family, synonyms, vernacular name, plant description,
distribution, medicinal uses, preparation and mode of administration
of drugs, chemical contents, propagation of the plants, references
are also included.
NSS UNIT No.193 (Women's Wing):
In association with Eco Club, we celebrated "June 5th - Environmental
Day" on 7th July 2006. Mrs.G.Uma Gowsalya, Convenor, Eco Club
gave enlightened speech on the importance of Environment Day to our
NSS volunteers. And also, on that day, we planted trees near the Hostel.
On 30th July 2006, we organised a one day "Polythene
Bags Clearance Camp" at Anaikuttam village. NSS volunteers enthusiastically
participated in the Rally at Anaikuttam and collected the waste Polythene
bags in Anaikuttam.
On 23rd September 2006, a Training Programme
was organised on "Health and Hygiene" as a part of RCC activities.
Mr.P.V.Selvaraj, Virudhunagar District Field Officer, TANSACS was
the Chief Guest of the programme.
On 21st January 2007, a one Day Special Camp
was organised at Pavalakuruchi Ayyanar Temple. NSS volunteers were
involved in the cleaning activity at Pavalakuruchi Ayyanar Temple.
On 17th February 2007, we organised a Guest Lecture
programme on "Awareness on Domestic and Family Violence Protection
Act". Mrs.Lakshmi Gopinath, Lawyer, Sivakasi was our chief guest.
On 8th March 2007, Women's Day was celebrated
by organizing a Guest Lecture programme on the topic "Women Literacy".
Mrs.Bhuvana, Chief Community Development Officer, Tamilnadu Slum Clearance
Board, Chennai was the chief guest of this programme.
Ten Days Special Camp at Pavalakurichi:
NSS Ten Day Special Camp was organised on the theme, "Healthy
Youth for Healthy India" at Pavalakuruchi village from 22nd to
31st December 2006. During the camp, on 30th December 2006 our NSS
volunteers did the controlling devotees crowd for two hours at Srivilliputhur
Andal Kovil.
NSS UNIT No.192 & 209 (Men's Wing):
Under the auspices of NSS units of our college, an "Orientation
Programme" meeting was conveyed in 23rd June, 2006. Dr.K.Rajakumar,
Principal and Chairman NSS was the chief guest.
To educate the students in following the traffic
rules, a special guest lecture on "Traffic Rules - Awareness
Meet" was conducted on 26th June, 2006 in our college. Mr.K.Mutharasu,
Traffic Sergeant, Sivakasi Town Police Station, Sivakasi was the resource
person.
In view of safeguarding the environment, an awareness
rally on "Polythene Bags clearance" was conducted on 23rd
July, 2006 at Sivakasi. Thiru.A.Asaithambi, Industrialist inaugurated
the rally.
As a mark of serving the society, NSS units 192,
209 and Youth Red Cross in association with Blood Bank, Government
Hospital, Sivakasi and Rotary Club of Sivakasi conducted a Blood Donation
Camp on 4th August, 2006 in the college. Dr.M.Kathiresan, Medical
Officer, Government Hospital, Sivakasi presided over the blood donation
camp.
In the mindset of making the people to enjoy
good health, an awareness rally on "Chik-kun-Kunia" was
organized on 24th September, 2006 at Thiruthangal. Thiru.A.Ganesaparumal,
DSP, Sivakasi inaugurated the rally.
A guest lecture on "In search of soul"
was organised on 4th October, 2006 in our college. Thiru.Saravana
Kanth, M.D., Informatics, Sivakasi was the resource person.
NSS volunteers have involved in the process of
regulating the devotees in Thiruvannamalai Temple (Srivilliputhur)
on 23rd and 30th September, 7th, 14th, and 21st October 2006.
A ten day special camp on the theme "Healthy
Youth for Healthy India" was also organized in Anaikuttam village
between 3rd and 12th December, 2006.
A guest lecture on "Trekking Adventure"
was organised on 10th January, 2007 in our college. Thiru.L.Frederic
with his team members from Mass India Coimbatore delivered a special
lecture on Trekking adventure.
To inculcate the values of humanity in the minds
of the students, a special guest lecture on "Humanity" was
organised on 5th February, 2007 in our college. Dr.G.Dhanapal, Head,
Department of Tamil was the resource person.
In the interest of keeping our college campus
clean, a one day camp was organised in our college on 11th February,
2007. NSS volunteers removed unwanted plants grown in and around the
college campus.
To analyse and suggest suitable suggestions for
the problems faced by the youth, a guest lecture on "Future challenges
of Indian Youth" was organised on 12th February, 2007. Dr.S.Subramanian,
Pathologist, was the resource person.
PARENTS AND TEACHERS ASSOCIATION:
The Parents and Teachers Association meeting was held on 6th July,
2006. Parents were shared their views about the college.
The Association meeting was held on 4th February,
2007. Around 150 parents have participated. Feedback forms were issued
and obtained the suggestions from the parents.
The synopsis of the suggestion received from
the parents was sent to the Secretary of our college for further action.
SKC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: An ordinary
meeting was held on 4th December 2006. More than ninety nine members
participated.
On 2nd November 2006, the second annual meeting
was conducted.
Alumni members interacted with the NAAC Team
on 15th March 2007.
STUDENTS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE:
1. Created two canteens for the students so that they may be able
to take their tiffin/lunch within the stipulated period of time.
2. Provided mineral drinking water to all.
3. Two Xerox units, STD & PCO facilities and also installation
of coin boxes for better usage of students.
